One of it is financial instability, as the nation experience country-wide lockdown many small vendors are running out of money to meet their basic needs such as that of paying rents. Though, the PM Modi on his address to the nation has appealed people to show compassion, we can see the twitter on toll highlighting issue such as landlords harassing tenants to pay rent. Amid all this chaos, a man from Kozhikode has bear a loss of Rs. 12 lakh waiving rents of almost 100 shops. How Chakunny overnight became a definition of humanity? Let’s check that out!
Chakunny act of Humanity is what nations needs at the moment of corona-crises.
A diehard fan of Indian cinema, Chakunny has taken many roles throughout his life. Sometimes working as a side actor is south movies and sometime turning out to be real life hero for many; Chakunny has his own history of being loved. This time it is not his new movie but his act of humanity that made him an overnight definition of Humanity. Chakunny is the man of simplicity, after finishing his SSLC he joined as a trainee at Vijaya Traders in Kozhikode. After completing his internship he started his own firm known as ‘Chakunny And Company’ back in 1968. Starting as a salesman and then opening his own firm, he has seen his own part of struggle in business. So maybe this was the reason why he couldn’t bear seeing these shop owners going through such great financial losses.
We all know that Kerala is among one such state of India that had experienced high coronavirus cases. And as the state experience lockdown, many small vendors are struggling to pay rents. Chakunny, who own more than a 100 shops in the city Kozhikode to different shop owners has waived off rent bearing a loss of lakhs. He realized that many such shop owners were unable to pay the rent on time. Doing his bit towards helping such people, Chakunny waived off their rents for a month. Such generous act by him has made him a new Coronawarrior among the corona crises in India.
“I know the pain a person owning a business goes through during such trying times. I was in the same position a few years back and I realised that it was time for me to do whatever I can to help. A few days back some of my tenants requested if they could pay the rent on a daily basis rather than paying at the end of the month. I was fine with that. But a few days later, when my son went to collect the rent, he said that some of the tenants couldn’t pay the rent at all. I went and spoke to them personally and understood that they were experiencing a serious dip in the sales.” Chakkuny says in a report by The Better India.
He explains further, that when he went to see them in person he realized that many these shop owners have already taken loans to pay the rents. So, he immediately contacted all his family members and auditors who have owned these shops to waive of their rents for a month.
