The Indian Premier 2022 auction made history to the fact that the bidders are now looking for home-grown talents than the foreign players as 7 players from India were among the 10 most expensive buys. Since IPL first began in India in 2008, franchises believed in betting on foreign players and splashing tons of money on them, but things seem to have changed now.
A total of 204 players were sold and Rs 551.70 crore were spent over 2 days at the IPL auction making our local heroes the attraction of the show. Held in Bengaluru on Saturday, February 12, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian buy in IPL’s history. The Mega Auction also locked in many more Indian names at intense bidding.

The most expensive player of the even was Ishan Kishan with Mumbai Indians bidding him for Rs. 15.25 crores and making him the 2nd most expensive Indian player at the auction after Yuvraj Singh in 2015. Deepak Chahar came second in the list as the player was sealed by Chennai Super Kings once again for Rs.14 crore. This bid made Chahar the most expensive Indian fast bowler in the history of IPL auction.
Indian Batter Shreyas Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight riders for Rs.12.25 crores and was the first player at the auction to cross Rs.10 crore threshold. On the other hand, Indian all-rounder Harshal Patel was bought for Rs 10.75 Crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Franchise also bought West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran at the same price.
The only overseas player in the top 5 most expensive buys at the 2022 auction was Liam Livingstone from England who was bought at Rs. 11.50 crore by Punjab Kings. In the top 10 list, Krunal Pandya was bought by the new team Lucknow Super Giants for Rs. 8.25 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders also bought Indian player Nitish Rana for Rs. 8 crores sealing him under the most expensive buys of IPL 2022 auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore welcomed back Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for Rs.10.75 crores. Shahrukh Khan from Tamil Nady was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs. 9 crores. Whereas Rahul Tewatia was secured at the same price by Gujarat Titans. West Indies pair Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer were bought by Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals respectively.
Meanwhile, some payers including India batter Suresh Raina remained unsold, but the unsold players may return for the express auction later.

The first Indian Premier League 2022 is scheduled to be played on 02 April 2022, the first IPL 15 Match will be played in the M. A. The BCCI is hoping that the IPL 2022 can be hosted in India itself due to the Covid-19 surge in other countries.
