Monsoon is a pretty season. It rains and pours like wow. Sometimes you’d also get ‘Bahara’ feels from the showers but when you’ll look right into the mirror, all the feels would vanish. Monsoon brings skin irritation, breakouts, acne, fungal infections, hair fall and much more. Even this pretty monsoon vibe can be scary for those who have acne prone skin.

Why does it happen?

Atmosphere is very moist and damp during monsoon which causes the dirt and grime to stick to your skin. Also the skin secretes a lot of oil during this season which also clogs the pores, causing pimples to pop out. During this season, your normal skincare routine is taking you nowhere.

You need to put some extra effort to look flawless and a lot more effort if you have sensitive skin. The most important thing to remember is, don’t let your skin remain damp because damp skin attracts microbes like a magnet. It is very important to cleanse at least thrice day to combat dampness. In worst cases dampness can also bring ring worms.

Let’s see how:

Cleanse :  Cleansing in the most important step. Remember to cleanse your face at least three to four times a day to get rid of the excess dirt, grime and oil. Dirt and grime can clog your pores and cause acne and pimples and nobody wants their face to look like a road.

Tip: Remember not to use a cleanser which contains alcohol. It can strip your skin of the minimum amount of moisture it needs to glow and look healthy. Alcohol based products do more harm than good. In the meanwhile, non – alcoholic products help to normalize the pH balance of your skin and give it a healthy and even tone.

Pro tip: If you have pimples, don’t pick them. The liquid secreted on picking them is highly infectious, this only leads to growth of more pimple around the affected area.

Exfoliate :

Exfoliation is very necessary (in any season), but when it comes to monsoon, it is the most important thing to do. Your skin turns very sticky in monsoon, and to microbes, sticky skin is like what a candy shop is to kids. The little particles in the air stick to your skin and clog pores. This could lead to several skin related problems. To avoid such problems, choose a scrub that suits your skin and exfoliate gently to get rid of dead skin cells, grime and oil. Clean pores put ease to skin and make it look healthy and glowing.

Tip: Don’t use a scrub while you already have pimples. Doing so can worsen the condition and add more pimples and breakouts on the affected area. In this condition, you can use a mild cleanser that doesn’t contain any beads.

Hydrate :

When they say Hydrate, do it without a second thought. Hydration is the key to happiness. ‘Girls glow differently when loved properly’ they say. We say, ‘girls glow even better when they’re hydrated’. Don’t forget to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. For better results, add a decent amount of juices and shakes to your routine. Plus, eating vegetables and fruits which have cooling agents and are mostly water based (like cucumber and watermelon) will add more suppleness to skin. Cucumber is basic and also normalizes the pH of your stomach putting your it at ease.

In this season, you sweat a lot. In humid weather, the skin cells lose water and start shrinking, making the skin look dull and pale. When you drink ample amount of water, the skin cells start retaining moisture, which makes the skin look super fine and even. Also, it makes the skin look smooth and enhances the complexion.

Tip: Do not experiment with artificial jewellery (if you have sensitive skin). Doing so can cause rashes and irritation.

Homemade Packs:

It’s better to use homemade packs instead of going for chemical based products. This seasons onward, start looking for domestic ways to look prettier. Some of the ingredients which do miracles are – orange peel, tomato, cucumber, potato etc. These packs show instant results on skin. Nothing beats Organic. These packs reduce dark spots, pimple and acne spots and patchiness, making your skin flawless.

SPF:

No matter how pleasant the weather is, or how beautiful the rain and breeze makes you feel, DO NOT skip on the sunscreen. Choose a sunscreen with a good SPF. The UV rays can manage to damage your skin at anytime of the day. So, even if you do not choose an eyeliner or a lipstick, don’t avoid sunscreen. UV rays can damage your skin for a long term. You know, prevention is better than cure.

Hair care:

Hair is the frame to your face. It’s your duty to pay proper attention to your hair. In this weather, when sweat sticks on to your hair it can cause itching and irritation and invite dandruff. These little dandruff particles can latch on to your skin from your hair and cause acne. Acne is even more deep rooted.

Wash your hair at least thrice a week and cleanse the scalp thoroughly to avoid dandruff and irritation. Beautiful and fragrant hair fetches more compliments. Conditioning is also very important because the winds can strip the moisture off your hair. Conditioning is anyway important, be it any season.
